Hotsy Totsy was founded by three friends with a shared curiosity for cocktails, hospitality, and the atmosphere of classic speakeasy bars. What started as an idea quickly became a place — one built on precision, consistency, and respect for the craft.
Over the years, Hotsy Totsy has grown into one of Budapest’s most recognized cocktail bars, known for its refined drinks, intimate setting, and uncompromising attention to detail. In 2025, this approach was recognized internationally when we were ranked the 267th best bar in the world by Top500Bars.
Today, we continue to focus on what matters most: well-balanced cocktails, thoughtful service, and an experience that feels effortless — yet memorable.
The Legend of Hotsy Totsy
The name Hotsy Totsy comes from the slang of the Prohibition era, used to describe something—or someone—exceptionally good, attractive, and a little dangerous. According to legend, Hotsy Totsy was also the nickname of a beautiful and wild woman, closely linked to the infamous Jack “Legs” Diamond, one of New York’s most notorious bootleggers.
Their story captures the spirit of the 1920s: glamour, excess, rebellion, and charm living side by side. This atmosphere became the inspiration behind our bar. At Hotsy Totsy Budapest, we don’t recreate history—we reinterpret it, blending the elegance and edge of the Prohibition era with a modern cocktail culture and meticulous craftsmanship.
